Keeping the bathroom clean is an absolute necessity. It can turn into a toxic nightmare at times. Apart from the dirt mess that can be created, cleaning products contain toxic chemicals which are very harmful to our health.
Most of the common cleaners we use are made up largely of bleach and a number of other harmful chemicals. Even cleaners labeled “non-toxic” and “biodegradable” can contain ingredients that are hazardous to your health.
Therefore, the responsible thing to do would be to find a less toxic cleaning alternative, as typical cleaning products can seriously harm us and endanger our health through the vapors that are emitted from them.
Although it is unknown to most people, there are many household items that can be used to clean which are less harmful but just as effective as typical cleaning products. Today, we will reveal a way to make cleaning a less toxic task, and it will undoubtedly make your life easier.
- One teaspoon of natural liquid dish soap
- Half a cup of baking soda
- A quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide*
*A solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide can cause burns, breathing a lot of it can be irritating, and it is very dangerous to drink it. The label does state to “keep out of reach of children”.
In order to prepare your own homemade cleaning product, combine the ingredients in a small squeeze top bottle. The hydrogen peroxide will act as asubstitute for bleach and will whiten and clean the stains on your tiles naturally.
The baking soda will provide antimicrobial properties to the solution and willact as a disinfectant, so you can scrub away harmful bacteria. The baking soda will also absorb the water deposits left in between the tiles and will help get rid of unpleasant odors.
If the stains you need to clean aren’t very hard to get ride of, apply the mix on a soft wet sponge and scrub the tiles and bathroom areas with it. Rinse with water.
For a deep clean, apply the mixture on the grout and tiles and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. It will dissolve all of the dirt that built up and the stains will be easily removed afterwards.
Rinse and repeat the process if there is still some dirt residue. The results should speak for themselves.
Once you have removed all of the stains from your grout and tiles, use this second natural cleaning product to prevent further build up of dirt and stains:
- Mix water and vinegar in a ratio 1:1 and pour it in a spray bottle next to the shower.
- After showering, spray it down with this solution.
- Do this 2-3 times a week to get the maximum effect.
